Rooted in Cookstown
Fresh food, familiar faces, and a little more time for you.

About us
We’re Aaron and Jennifer, a husband-and-wife team, and Cookstown has been home to Aaron’s family for four generations.
We opened The Rooted Foodery as a neighbourhood food store where you can pick up fresh meats, ready-made meals, everyday groceries and products from vendors around Cookstown, all in one convenient stop.
But what makes a neighbourhood store special isn’t only what’s on the shelves. It’s the old-fashioned service, the friendly hello, and the small chat at the counter. It’s having someone take a moment to help you figure out what to make for supper, or simply a chance to put your phone down and enjoy a real conversation.
We want The Rooted Foodery to feel like a place where you’re known, welcomed and never rushed. A place to pick up what you need, discover something local, ask for an idea, or stop in just to say hello.
Good food. Friendly service. A little more time in your day.

We C.A.R.E.S.
Five words we hold ourselves to, from our Instagram highlights.
- Community
- Hot dogs for the library at the Cookstown Community Picnic, salads for the church supper, extra bananas for the community fridge.
- Affordability
- Canadian beef, Ontario pork and chicken and everyday groceries without the drive or the premium price tag.
- Relationships
- Bread from Barrie, butter from Alliston, granola from Innisfil: makers we know by name.
- Experiences
- Old-fashioned service, a friendly hello, and time to talk supper over at the counter.
- Services
- Order ahead online, dry-cleaning drop-off, OLG lottery, a water refill station and firewood.

We Cater, Too
When you see us at the Cookstown Community Picnic serving hot dogs for the library, that’s us showing up for the community we live in.
We also cater: appetizers, breakfast, lunch and dinner for office lunches, parties, family reunions, corporate events and celebrations of life, and our Smart Serve certified team can pour your bar.
Heard at the Counter
The owners and staff make the experience more personal as you fetch fresh ingredients for the meal of choice with each visit. Prepared meals available and ready for the nights when you don’t have the energy to cook.
… a surprisingly good selection of meats and homemade meals to fill your pantry. The owners are super nice and helpful and we got pretty good value for a ton of food.
Great story behind the place and an excellent range of premade food options.
